On October 4, the Alga4Food Project moved for the second time to “Praia de Buarcos”, in “Figueira da Foz”. Several species were harvested, among them sea-lettuce (Ulva spp.), slender wart weed (Gracilaria gracilis), “musgos” (Chondracanthus teedei var. lusitanicus), devil’s tongue weed (Grateloupia turuturu) and the alien specie wakame (Undaria pinnatifida). It should be noted that C. teedei is a Lusitanian endemism, occurring in the Northwest Atlantic, in particular, in Spain and Portugal. This is a seaweed used in Japan, with applications similar to the Chondracanthus chamissoi seaweed, used in Chilean and Peruvian cuisine as a garnish for ceviches and fish soups, but can also be used in salads.
